Default gasoline smell when I crank up on cold or rainy mornings

I have noticed that on cold and/or rainy mornings I crank my car and the smell of gasoline is sooo strong! What could be causing this? The smell comes through the vents if I turn on the heat or a/c. One morning when I took my kids to school one of the teachers standing in line helping the kids out of the cars made a comment that she smelled gasoline so it must be strong smelling outside of the vehicle too. Help!!

Leaks from the fuel pressure regulator are not unheard of, I would look there first. Then, try turning the key to the run position without starting the engine. This will run the fuel pump and pressurize the fuel system. Any leaks should be evident then.
Does the smell go away after the car warms up?

I think the smell does go away after the car warms up..erh, I run the car approx. 10 minutes (to and from the school) and by the time I get back I still smell it but faintly. If I am making a longer trip then I usually don't notice the smell when I get out of the car. It definately doesn't smell on long trips inside the car the whole time it's running. I was looking up some more recalls on my car and I was wondering if this recall might have anything to do with it? This is all kind of greek to me but I am going to have my husband take a look at this site! Thanks so much for your reply! I will have my dh to check it out!

It sounds like its the regulator. I had one go out on me a few years ago. Its possible that your car falls under the recall so you should really check it out. Just go to a GM dealer and ask them if it is.

Do what Iflylow said and hopefully you will find the problem.

Similar problem with our 2000 alero. I have some pictures here for reference:

There appears to be a leak beneath the silver module at the bottom left of the engine. Trying to find a simple diagram that IDs the parts of the engine, so I can further nail stuff down. Any help would be great.

Thanks!
