Default Body plate and series number

Hi all,

Just purchased a 68 442 convertible and had a few questions. The first is I believe the body plate should be on the drivers side upper cowl but mine doesn’t seem to be there. Is that the correct location? If it is this car is missing it. So how would I find the series number for this car to be able to look at the correct electrical schematic in the service manual. Is it just 44?

Thanks,

Herk

The location of the body data plate for 1968 is :

1968

Location: Under the hood, below the left windshield wiper transmission.

This per 1968 Oldsmobile Body Plate Data.

If yours is not there, how did the car get titled and plates issued? Perhaps someone removed it to cover up the fact the car is not in fact a true 442?

The VIN is still there and looks very original as the wear around it seems right for the age. The body plate is not there for sure. The VIN matches the title so everything’s is ok there.
