hello, i am looking at a 72 cutlass with 442 tags and grills, is there a way to verify a 72 convertible 442 without a build sheet? i was told the 442 option for the convertibles in 72 was only a suspension and appearance package, it does have front and rear sway bars, and boxed control arms . thank you

Unfortunatly no. Not without the build sheet or original window sticker. The VIN should start 3J67. I'm pretty sure all the convertables were supremes. 3 in Oldsmobile. J is Cutlass Supreme. and 67 is convertable. Next digit is the engine code. H = 350 2bbl 160hp. J = 350 2bbl 175hp (dual exh).K = 350 4bbl 180hp. M = 350 4bbl 200hp (dual exh). U = 455 4bbl 250hp (dual exh).V = 455 4bbl 270hp (dual exh).X = 455 4bbl 300hp (W30). Next is the assembly plant. G = Framingham, MA. M = Lansing, MI. R = Arlington TX. Z = Freemont CA. Then the production number. I hope that helps a bit. |
