Hi all,

Trying to help a buddies girlfriend get her car going. I was a mechanic up until 10 or so years ago when I left for greener pastures but I never had any trans. experience.

She has an '02 Alero with a 2.2L engine and a 4 speed A/T. Her problem is as follows: When you put the car in drive the first thing you notice is that the speedo doesn't work. After taking it a very short distance down the road you'll also find that the transmission won't shift from first.

I'm just wondering if anyone has had this happen to them and what the fix was. As I mentioned I'm just trying to help out a friends girlfriend save a few bucks as she is a working student.

I would check all the fuses and relays first off. It could also be the solenoid inside the valvebody. They are known to be junk.
