Hello all, just bought used alero 3 months ago. Last couple of weeks warning lights coming on:anti-lock,trac service vehicle soon. Transmission is also starting to jump.We put it on a machine and it came back saying it was a transmission sensor-0717 input turbine speed sensor a circuit. We just got this car and are already having to repair it. A transmission place told us that once this sensor is replaced the warning lights will go out. The mileage is 71k and trans fluid is supposed to be changed at 50k. Don't believe previous owner did this. The man told us that he could fix it and nothing else will go wrong or another sensor will go out in a few months or less. Is this problem worth getting fixed or should we get rid of car?

A trans fluid change should be less than $75. Do it if you aren't sure it's been done. Whether the car is worth keeping or not depends on how expensive the tranny sensor will be to fix, how much you owe on the car, and if you could get a comparable car when you need one.

How much did the shop say the repair was going to cost, and have you got a second opinion? My Alero is a 2001 with 86K miles, and has been no trouble at all.

Thanks for replies. The repair could range from $400 to $1200. The man told us to look at fluid and if it was red colored ok but if it was brown, to get rid of car. Maybe if I concentrate real hard I can make it red, ha ha!Well, we tried to trade this car in and no one wants it, b/c of warning lights. One dealership only wanted to give us $3500 for car and we still owe $7000k. We are stuck with it, we may try to change the fluid see if that helps. After we bought it we figured it may have been in a wreck b/c there were rocks under dash and the front hood was bondo and repainted. Should have done our research. Guess we'll have to make lemonade out of this one.lol.

I was doing research and maybe the place we had look at our car did not have the proper scanner. It was at precision tune up. Perhaps I need to get it scanned at a dealer. The more I read about my problem and see others thathave the same, it had nothing to do with the transmission but a wheel/hub repair problem. Perhaps it is the wheels and not the tranny.I didn't know you needed a certain type of scanner...
