2000 alero 2.4 Knocking after oil overfill Please help

Ok so I've driven my alero for 3.5 years with absolutely no engine issues till I over filled the oil by about 3 quarts give or take it only ran in that condition about 4 minutes and was only driven below 2 rpms I parked it and changed the oil out the next day to the proper level then started it up it sounded fine so I started driving turned the corner and heard a horrible noise knocking it gets really loud after 2 rpms and only gets louder and makes the engine run harder the further it revs I am hopeing it only a lifter I'm taking it apart today and tomorrow but don't even know how to tell if a lifter is bad what should I look for will it be apparent right away what's wrong or will there be lots of gues and check please help any constructive coments and help ar needed and welcome thanks alot for replys in advance

Ok well can someone. At least tell me if I'm on the right type of forum to be asking this or not I don't really have time to be wasted waiting

Over filling the oil shouldn't cause an issue like this. My guess is it's a bad coincidence in timing.
I'd pull the dipstick and start looking for "sparklies" in the oil that look like glitter. It is really hard to diagnose noises without actually hearing them in person.
