Default Brake Petal Squeak

I noticed that when I press down the brake pedal in my 99 I hear a loud squeak from the front driver side of the car. It is loud enough you can hear it outside the car when it is running.

It doesn't always happen, but I know it should not do this compared to when it was new. It also feels like I have to press the brake pedal down harder too.

Anyone have an idea what this might be? I thought that maybe I can lube something with WD-40 to kill the sueak, but since it seems like I have to stand on the brake sometimes I thought something might be failing.

How many miles has it been since you last replaced your brake pads? That would be the first thing I would check. A pads worn down to the rivets will squeak like what you are describing. Check them out and let us know what you find.

I hear a noise I'd sound like "cracking" or like an opening door, which can be heard from outside as well ...
I don't want to say too much, but this sound has occured before and after brake jobs ... I can say that it does it far less when the brakes are new however.

I'm pretty sure GM has a TSB about that for the Alero and Grand Ams. Something about putting some klube lube on the seals of the piston in the calipers.

I did some research and found out a few different TSBs. It turns out I had to get the entire brake assembly replaced. Once this was replaced the "creak" went away.

The TSB was 01-55-22-001

Cool, glad you got it fixed.
