I have 2000 Olds Alero. (4 cyl) 42,000 miles. I have maintained this car in great condition and its serviced regularly. About 2 months ago the 'change engine oil light' came on. I have checked all the obvious stuff that a semi profcient (which means I barely know what im doing) mechanic would do. Owners manual is missing. Anyone with an idea?

open your drivers side door, there is a fuse panel..inside that panel there is a button that is red, and says reset on it...theres your guy...it should come on every so often. |
what you have to do is turn the car ot the on possition (do not crank
the car) then hold the button down till it beeps. If it does not beep after 10 seconds then turn the car off and then back to the on possition press but button once till the oil light starts flashing then hold the reset button down till the car beeps and you should be good to go |
there is more than one way to skin a cat though. some of the newer aleros (mine) doesnt come with a reset button. The fix is still rather simple. Turn the key to the on position. with it in the on position, press the gas pedal 3 times within 5 seconds. The light will flash, car will ding and the light will be gonzo. |
