What is the best method to clean the throttle body. I just had my new engine changed due to a faulty FRAM oil filter. Looks like the mechanic put the entire intake manifold on the new engine without cleaning it. There is all sorts of gunk and residue inside the intake box and throttle body itself. To top it off the engine is idleing like crap. I was told just to spray carb/throttle body cleaner down there.

removing the TB is the best method, but if you don't want do that, get a can of Seafoam at your local auto parts store and follow the directions on the can. I've used it and it works pretty well.

Carb cleaner is different than TB cleaner. Only use a product that says it is safe for the MAF (mass airflow sensor), or your car really will idle rough!

Cleaning the TB should help your idle.
