Good buy, wrong motor
my sister-in-law has 2001 Alero and it has had the engine replaced with the wrong size engine.(this year has 2 different motor options) this happened previous to her purchase. (auction car). my question is this; does she need to replace the engine again, or could she replace the brain with the correct one for the present motor, which currently will crank, has great compression, no leaks, and will accept the same wiring plugs as the original as far as i can tell? I have seen no spliced wires to date. Thanks in advance//

Well what engine does it have? 2.2L, 2.4L, or 3.4L or the off chance the 3.1L. Really if you went from one motor to any other motor you would need the PCM and wiring harness.

im no real sure which motor it has, i have only seen the car one time, but i am going to go by there today and see if i can't get some numbers off of it. I will post the engine size, vin, and is there anything else i would need to get for you?

Is it auto or stick. Well either way you will need a reflashed PCM and the wiring harness. If you want you can ask this question over on www.aleromod.com. I know there have been a few people over there that have done motor swaps and would know what would be needed. They might give you a hard time at first but some of the people over there know their stuff.
