How do you fix the turn signal
#1
I''''ve got an Alero V6, 2001. For some reason the part (i don''''t know the name for) the makes the "clicking" sound when using the turn signal will just come on and start clicking like crazy for no reason at all. I can''''t get it to stop. Maybe something is shorting out because it doesn''''t do it all the time and sometimes it will just click here and there.
I do know the sound is coming for where the hazard button is.Does anyone have experience in this? Do I have to replace it? Or can I fix it?Edited by: meanmagee

This could be either your multifunction switch (the stalk on the steering column that controls the turn signals, headlights, etc.) or the hazard switch. I would check the hazard switch first, because it may be possible to get it replaced free under a recall. Even if it isn''t eligible for free replacement, it is still a lot cheaper than a multifunction switch.
The hazard switch contains the flasher for the turn signals. It is not too hard to change, and since you have a 2001, yours might be subject to a recall. The recall requires the dealer to replace the hazard light switch free of charge, since there were a large number of defective ones. Check the NTSB website for further info, or call your local Chevy dealer.
I have a copy of bulletin 04098A, issued January 2006, which lists the applicable VIN numbers. It also shows how to replace the switch. I will email this to you if you PM me your email address, since the file upload feature of this forum will not work.
