I have an 01 2.4 GL and the remote was lost and I just bought another but I have no clue how to program it. Does anyone know how to do this or can guide me to instructions? Thanks!! |
This is what I did on my 2000 when I got it --
1. From the drivers seat ensure all four doors are closed and hold down the door lock switch (on the door!!) to the unlock position. Hold it down while you insert the ignition key twice and the third time leave the key in</span>. 2. Release the unlock switch. You will hear three tones. Immediatelly hold down both the lock and unlock buttons on your fob. Hold them down until you hear two beeps. It may take a few moments. Do this with each of your fobs. I did it with two. I understand you can program up to four. 3. Remove key from ignition That should work, if not, let me know and I'll dig and find the instructions again... |
Hey, thanks for the instructions but they didnt work for me. I tried it numerous times just to make sure i wasnt doing something wrong. |
let me dig and see if I can find the instructions -- that is what I remember doing, but I may have remembered something wrong... You car is new enough that you should be able to do it yourself - the 99 is the only year that you couldn't I think...

Hey i really appreiciate your help with this. I hate knowing my car has keyless entry and an alarm and cant use it. well actually, does it have an alarm or is it only keyless entry that the 01 alero came with?

Alrighty, here's what my remote came with -- like I said, I have a 2000, but I don't believe that it changed with 01....
Up to 4 transmitters may be programmed. Transmitter Programming Procedure (Method 1 - No Tools Required) To program the transmitters, perform the following procedure while seated in the vehicle driver's seat: Close all the vehicle doors. Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder. Press and hold unlock on the door lock switch. Important To successfully enter the keyless entry programming/diagnostic mode, steps 4 through 6 must be completed within 25 seconds of pressing the door unlock switch. While holding the door lock switch in the unlock position, insert and remove the ignition key twice. Do not rotate the ignition lock cylinder. Insert the ignition key a third time leaving the key in the ignition lock cylinder. The ignition must remain in the LOCK position for the rest of the procedure. Release the door lock switch. The chime will sound three chimes to signal that transmitter programming/diagnostic mode is active. Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons at the same time on the keyless entry transmitter for approximately 4 seconds. The chime will sound two times to signal that the transmitter has been programmed successfully. Repeat step 7 for the rest of the transmitters (for a total of 4 transmitters). To exit the transmitter programming/diagnostic mode perform either of the following: Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position. Remove the ignition key from the ignition switch. I've been getting conflicting opinions -- some say that 2001 and newer need dealer, but some say that the above works. If that doesn't then try the 99 method, close doors, stand outside car and hold 'lock' and 'unlock' buttons down until they lock. If those don't work, the dealer is going to be your friend! </span> |
