I have a 2000, alero....the temp gauge reads midway all the time except when i'm in traffic it tends to go a lil over....i go to change the thermo and come to find out there isnt any...how is this possible?!?!...I also bought a brandnew thermo and tried to put it in but it wont fit....any guesses????

Remember that the thermostat's job is to stay closed until theengine is warm....in other words, it makes the engine warm up faster. The engine will still warm up without a thermostat. Obviously, the problem issomewhere else in the system.

I'd try getting a power flush of the system. In particular, the radiator. And I'm talking professional. Not that Prestone "flush in a can" stuff.

I just reread your first post. What you call "a lil over" midway is NOT overheating....but a flush would be well advised anyway.

I when i first purchased the car in august, i got a coolant flush is that sufficient? or should i get the whole system done?

thanks

Power flush or drain and refil? If it was power flushed, that should do ya. Pop in the thermostat and see what happens.

MY FIRST THOUGHT IS WHERE ARE YOU LOOKING FOR THE THERMOSTADT?? NEXT EXACTLY HOW MUCH TEMPERATURE ARE YOU EXPERIENCING? WHAT ENGINE DO YOU HAVE?? HOW MANY MILES ON THE CAR ??

2.4 L...2000 alero....69k miles.....thermostat on the rightside of the engine

also....it is not "overheating"....it is running hot....it never goes under midway and never over 3/4 hot

thanks for all the support

00,

Put in that new thermostat. If it stays in that range, you are ok.

ilike,

Your CapsLock is still stuck.
