output shaft plays from side to side
Dear Forum!
I have 1999 Alero 2.4L, automat., ABS. VIN Code="1G1NL52T1XC------". The situation is: The transmission/differential output shaft (which name is correct?) on passenger side plays to side from side about 1/8 inch (~ 3 mm). (Not inwards/outwards). 1. When the car is idle and I am moving the output shaft (directly or via the inner cv joint housing) from side to side, i hear "knocking sound" from the (transmission/differential) housing from where the output shaft comes out. 2. When I am driving, and taking !left! turn together with braking, I hear a loud "knocking sound" from the front of passenger side (there are already installed brand new sway bar, outer tie rod end, cv shaft assembly). My questions are: 1. What is the possible problem? Weared out inner side of output shaft? Or weared out some bearings around output shaft in the housing of transmission/differential? Or some other possibilities? 2. What sort of components must I replace? (output shaft, bearing, seals, ...) 3. Can I drive with this problem a few more days/weeks? Thank you for wour answer. |
I'm not sure man. Without hearing it I can't really say. I don't want to say its one thing and you replace it just to have it still happen.
