P1404 error code on 1999 Alero
My SES (Service Engine Soon) light came on this am. Took it to Advanced Auto Parts and their scanner said this:
P1404 Manufacturer Control. Auxiliary emission controls. I did some Googe searches and it appears that this issue is due to a possible faulty EGR. But I might be able to just clean up the sensor and not have to replace it. So my question is for the gurus, where the heck is it on the engine? If you could identify the area in the pic below that would be helpful. For now I'll keep looking online and then head to the store. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ero/engine.jpg |
Update
Well I headed back to Advanced Auot Parts and now the light is off. But I still wanted to look into this so I told them the parts I needed and they said for a new EGR and gasket (since that probably needs replaced too) I'm looking at about $180.
Does anyone know if this can be just cleaned with something like carb cleaner? Also, after looking at their pictures and some online service diagrams I believe this is the EGR which is located near the rear on the driver's side of the engine. |
Yep that is the EGR. You can clean it up with brake cleaner, just make sure its all dry when you put it back on. Carbon build up is commen with the EGR.
