i had all sorts of problems with my 2000 alero and rotors. gm recognizes they have issues with them, but theres nothing they can do with it. I have 32000 on my 2004 factory rotors and brakes. Let me give you some advice. Get some power slotted rotors (cheaper than factory) and some ceramic brakes (cheaper than factory) and you'll be good to go. get away from the oem stuff cause its nothing but trouble.

I agree with replacing the OEM junk. I had the dealer where I worked replace the pads and resurface the rotors but they installed the lower grade GM pads. They are too soft. Go with a Brembo or an EBD like I did and you will be surprised at the difference.

One item that affects braking is the tire selection. I run yokohama VR rateds on my car and notice a BIG enhancement in braking. The stock Eagle LS are long wear tires but crappy at gripping.

You might want to check with people who have slotted rotors and ceramic pads before you go that route. I know a lot of folks who have problems with clicking and noise from the slot/ceramic pad combination.

I just put some RotorProsdrilled only rotors and semimetallic pads on my Impala, and other than a very, very slight whirring noise when the brakes are cold, they are great. Look for them on Ebay.

I agree with DoubleO: GM rotors/pads are junk on the Alero, and junk on my previous Cutlass, and junk on my Impala. NEVER buy brakes from the dealer!

I run Kuhmo Ecsta 711s, and they're great tires. A little soft, so they don't last forever, but they're quiet, and never run out of grip.
