I have a 2001 Alero v6. The ABS light, Trac Off light, and service engine light all come on everytime I drive. And this is still happening after changing both front wheel and bearing assemblies. I had a bearing going out which was causing the same problem, but now I've fixed the bearing problem and the lights are still coming on.


I know there's sensors in all 4 wheels. However, I cannot put any more money into the car right now. I'm assuming there is a short somewhere in the system. I was thinking about pulling the fuse for the ABS system but I don't know if it will disable something else on the system I might need. Does anyone know if it will?? I prefer just regular brakes anyway. I don't need ABS. Will it cause a problem with anything else if I pull the fuse??

when there is a fault detected in any of those systems the system does not function at all until theissue is repaired,it disables the system all together. If you had a short in the system the abs fuse will most likely already be blown. taking this fuse out will not turn the mil off (malfunction indicator lamp) what ever you do. don't go replacing parts.. many things could go wrong with the system that will cause the mil to turn on. I have worked on hundreds of these vehicles and i have to say the most common issue is the abs wheel speed sensors, which yes are in the wheel bearing serviced as a hub. good luck!

The ABS/Traction Control is already disabled if the lights are on. You have just regular (no ABS) power brakes, and no traction control.


The Service Engine light may be on for an unrelated reason. You need to have the car scanned and find out whether continuing to drive it in this condition will do more harm.
