I have a 2001 Alero. Only has about 61,000 miles on it. All of a sudden my transmission seems to be engaging hard. And now the service engine light popped on solid. Any
suggestions.
Thanks.
Nancy

Go to an Autozone and ask them to scan it. Write down the codes that they get from the car and post them here. The TPS (Throttle Position Sensor)will make the tranny shift hard. You may want to change that out.

Thanks for your reply. I had filled up yesterday so I readjusted the gas cap and when
I started the car today the service engine light came on and it revved a little when it
was first started but then it drove great, transmission smooth and the service engine
light went out.

Sometimes my trac light comes on and it didn''t today so I guess I need
to pay more attention to if the car shifts hard when it is on. It didn''t before. That seems
to happen in the summer and it doesn''t come on at all in the winter. Quirky car, have
had it a year and a half. Want a honda or Nissan again.

Think I will take it in and get the fuel filter changed and have them check the code just
in case.

Hey, I got a 2000 Alero. And my stupid trac light came on all the time in the summer when it was warm and not when it was cold. My engine would bog down and ram into 2nd gear. The only way I got it off was to stop and restart my car as if to clear it..then it would do it agian. So I delt with it. I think it is the speed sensors bad..they sense the wheels moving at different speeds. One time I was traveling at 65, I for some dumb reason thought I had a manual transmission and put it into reverse. There was a loud screech, and rubber marks on road, but seems ever since I did that, it doesn''t do it anymore, lol. But I don''t reccomend this.
