I bought this 2001 new for my wife. It has 34K miles and the engine will cutout at idle and mid-range RPMs (around 2000). It has cut off several times at stop lights, stop-n-go traffic on the beltway, and even cruising at speeds around 2000 RPMs. When it cuts out while moving, it acts as though some cutoff the switch for an instant long enough for one to notice (tach drops to near zero) but it continues running on its own. Any ideas?

 

I just bought an 02 aurora that does the exact same thing. I found out that the Crankshaft position sensor was going bad. It is only$70.00 part. Go and have your car scanned and see what codes it throw.

yea my 2001 4.0 did, (fixed supposedly) and now still does.
