98 Aurora water pump belt, tensioner

98 Aurora.

Got a mechanic saying that the water pump, tensioner, and pully are bad.

Saying the belt came off and wrecked the tensioner and pully.

Can anyone confirm if this happens?

No marks in the dust on the cover so I'm not confident in their word...
