I HAVE ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 1995 AURORA. MY INTENTIONS ARE TO FLUSH THE HEATER CORE AND SEE IF THAT CORRECTS THE PROBLEM. IT WORKS BETTER ON MANUAL THAN AUTOMATIC. ON AUTO THE HEAT COMES INTO THE CABIN DOWN LOW AT FOOT LEVEL. I GET BETTER RESULTS BY CHANGING TO MANUAL AND ADJUSTING THE HEAT TO THE STRAIGHT IN YOUR FACE LEVEL. WILL ADVISE ON THE FLUSH RESULTS.

Smelling anti freeze in your cars cabin is a sign of a heater core issue. Also if you notice any drops of fluid under the dash inside the car, this is a sure sign of a heater core issue. Look for all signs, heating and cooling issues can come from a number of sources..

The problem is probably one of the actuator motors on the air distribution unit under the center dash. They are used to move the various doors to select the temp of the air and where it comes out.
