Will the Check Engine light come on if the car is really low on fuel?

Have been low enough on fuel for the car to shut off on me. Check engine light has never come on. If yours comes on, check for a code on the obd2, most likely theres another problem.. I have a 2001 4.0!

The check engine light usually comes on if your oxygen sensors are going bad.
