problem was a hole in the PLASTIC radiator. $300 later and all is well.

I just replaced my plastic radiator 4 months ago. Within a few weeks I also needed a new water pump.

When you say the leak was on the right side, is that the passenger side? Looking under the hood, everything is turned around so I am just wondering what the protocol is?

all references to auto repair are from the drivers standpoint. i hope the water pump doesnt go out, what a nightmare.still a great car. rides like a dream and recently showed 25.4 mpg on a trip.

It took the mechanic around 1 hour the replace the water pump, maybe 15 minutes longer because he had never worked on an Aurora before. The air cleaner box gets removed, rubber air intake gets moved, maybe the cover over the rad gets removed, (can''t remember).

Then he removed the pump housing cover. The pump would not move for a while, eventually he found how to gently loosen it? Replaced with new. Used a heat proof gasket sealer - red.

Reassemble and top up rad.

I did not want to tackle that job myself in case worse problems were there and I would not identify them, (head gasket or block problem). It turns out I would have had trouble loosening the pump. It was tight. He used a mirror, wood pieces, mallet, pry bar, etc.
