Hello,


I notice that my spare tire compartment often has 1/4 inch layer of water. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, how do I fix it?I've checked the rubber seal around the trunk and it looks okay.


I also get water trapped between the underside of the trunk lid and the "fabric/plastic" insert.


Any ideas?

Do we have the same car? Had my 01 for bout 4 yrs. now and had the exact problem from the begginning. Seals look fine on mines as well. I told my mechanic about the problem an he didn't believe it. Trunk is aligned properly, no prior accidents in this area, I'm stumped. Waiting for feed back with you!!!

Looks like we're in the same boat (no pun intended) ;). I've put newspaper over most of the trunk, but I can't see where it could be dripping in.I think all i can do now is get in the trunk and have my wife spray the rear of the car with a garden hose!

That's a good idea. My mechanic told me a quick solution is to take the drain plugs out of the trunk so that the water will go through and won't build up. But I'm afraid that they'll be access noise an vibration, an what I like bout my aurora the best is the quietness an the comfort. Let me know if you find the water entry point.

So did anyone find the leaks source? Getting in the trunk is a good idea but my wife will never let me out until she she lets a few shots fly thru the trunk [img]smileys/smiley2.gif[/img]
No car accidents here either. Newspapers sounds good, then use the hose..please keep me in mind if a remedy is found.

ONLY ONE SOLUTION. GET YOUR BUDDY ( NOT YOUR WIFE ) TO WET THE TRUNK WHILE YOU ARE IN THE TRUNK WITH A FLASHLIGHT. LOOK FOR THE AREA THE LEAK IS COMING FROM . NEVER USE YOUR WIFE IN AN EASY TO GET RID OF HUSBAND FORUM. OH YEAH BUY YOUR BUDDY AT LEAST 2 BEERS FIRST. YOU NEVER KNOW WHO HIS LOYALTY IS TOO. PLEASE ADVISE SOLUTION OR LET US KNOW WHEN THE FUNERAL IS.

I had a similar problem and this was the solution:


The trunk seal went bad and wasn't keeping the water out. Be careful because all your electricals and modules are under the back seat. If water gets there, it'll corrode your wires and possibly fry the module. I had to replace some wires and electrical. You'll notice water behind the drivers side seat which means it's leaking from the trung under the back seat. Put in a new trunk seal, or use clear silicone around your existing seal to keep the water out.

Thanks Mrfreez,,I wish we had pictures. We had a real rain storm last 2 days in Boston. Almost 3.5" of rain and no water in trunk. I just bought car couple weeks ago and noticed some water in the spare tire hole but no water this time. Maybe someone had got some water in there another way. When I open the trunk and look around the area next to the rubber seal I saw a few spots that seemed to have a tiny slit on the metal "gutter" [img]smileys/smiley25.gif[/img]. What kind of product would be best to seal area.

I hope this reply isn't too late. I had the same problem when I first bought my 02 Aurora and it was bad. I heard a sloshing sound when I braked and I thought I'd bought a flood damaged car! Anyhow, after trying to track down the source of the leak myself for a week, I got fed up and took it to a body shop. They said there were two points of entry for the water. One: on the 02 model, there is a seperate body panel that surrounds the lisence plate, water was entering through the seem. Two: if you pull back the carpet in your trunk, you'll see that the trunk is two pieces and the seem is siliconed together. There was a leak in between the seam. The body shop sealed both leaks and no more water! Hope this was useful, take er easy,
