What kills Aurora body control modules?

I have a '95 and a '97 and like the Aurora well enough to have bought the '95 even knowing the problem the '97 has always had. Something kills the body control computer about once a year. The '97 needs its third since I bought it in 2005, which gets pricey at $900 or so per. The other car's first owner replaced the module four times. It needs another. The '95 BCM is only $140 or so, but I'm tired of this. I don't want to bother replacing it until whatever causes the problem can be fixed.

So: One rumor says that the alternator was designed wrong and occasionally fries the BCM, and the problem goes away if you replace that model alternator with another. Our mechanic can't find anything about it in the service bulletins. Can anyone confirm this story? And tell me which alternator it really needs? Or provide another explanation and repair?

Many thanks.
