Hey Everyone. I'm new to this forum, but not new to forums in general. I came here for some advice. I currently own 2 Olds' and about to buy a third, but I'm having some issue with my 02 Bravada. I currently have about 60K miles, but have noticed in the past few months what appears to be a "sticking" lifter. More pronounced at idle or under heavy loads while towing. I burn 87 octane and change oil at 3000 mile intervals with 5w/30 and a new quality filter. I'm not too familiar with the 4.2 I6. It seems like a great little engine and tons of power, but I'm concerned about this "lifter" noise.

Does anyone have any ideas? Is the 4.2 I6 a problematic engine like the 3.4 V-6?

I'm not aware that this engine has any valve lifters. Some engine noise is normal.

I know some engine noise is NORMAL, however, this is NOT normal. It sounds like a diesel. I have found on another forum that the early build 4.2's (which mine is) has a very likely outcome of self-destruction due to cylinder sleeves self-destroying. I just got back from a weekend camping trip, and I suspect the truck will be dead soon. I'm going to take it in this week to have it checked out.
