Default Bypass SmartTrack?

This might be a dumb question, but I've got a 2000 Bravada. It's a great vehicle and I love it, but I hate the SmartTrack. Has anybody ever "bypassed" the SmartTrack system and put the 4x4 on a switch? The other issue is that the SmartTrack system in mine doesn't work. I've heard about some kind of sensor on the rear differential that is a problem on these 4x4 systems. Hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about. Thanks.
