hey !

drove my 81 Cutlass around today and I turned on the heater. While midway through a lefthand turn the "battery" sign lit up for 2 seconds....what's that about ?

Does it always come on in a left hand turn? How about when turning right?

You may have a wire chaffed through that only touches in a turn. Trace your wiring from alternator to battery, looking for bare wire anywhere.

The 1st thing I would check is your altinator belt & its
tension, if the belt is loose it can "slip" causing the altinatorto
slow down in RPM's below the speed it can make proper voltage at.
Remeber there is an extra load on the belts in a turn, (assuming you
have power steering) when the power steering pump is pumping fluid to
the gear box.

hi thanks for your messages

Iflylow, this has only happened once so far (thank God). But I have reason to suspect foul play from the alternator as commented by Cammerjeff. It seems it's having trouble when I have electrical components on in the car - for instance the heater and when I made the turn (power steering yes indeed)

I've checked the belt but it seems quite good....so Im confused as to what it is then....

Some auto part stores here will check your alternator for free if you remove it and bring it to them...not sure about in Norway!
