I''ve got a 1986 Olds Cutless Supreme with the 3.8 liter V6. It has a habit of stalling when it''s cold generally but does it when warm as well. If ai start it in the morning, it''ll take a couple pumps to choke it and it''ll fire up easily. if i leave it for a min, ten mins, or even a half hour and go to put it in D or R, it''ll stall. On the highway when cold, if you put the pedal 3/4 down, it''ll bog out and die and when warm and you punch it already travelling highway speed, it drops a gear (which is of course normal), but it won''t speed upten km/h without it taking about 35 seconds. Any suggestions on what the problem is or is this normal but there''s an Oldstrick (:P) to improving it??

not really familiar with this model. is it carburetor or fuel injected. have you used any fuel cleaning additive?

Yeah its got the carb sittin'' on top. EFI didn''t come until either ''89 or ''90, I can''t remember. It gets alright fuel mileage, but it was much better before this problem. I''m inclined to think it''s maybe a sticky rotor cap; i''ve already replaced the vacuum hoses so i''m inclined to think it''s mehanical. I''m not sure. I work F/T at a heavy duty shop but they don''t work on carbs, so i''m alone on this one...

i''ve also tried additives and carb cleaner as well, even the warm water-down-the-carb trick while the car is runnin'' warm, but no solution ensues.
