I have a 1990 Cutlass Ciera with a 3.3 and 134K miles. When I go to start it, it will crank, but it won't turn. Until I give it gas. Then it will turn. After that, if you let off the gas, It will die. When you romp on the gas black smoke comes out the tailpipe. It seems like as long as its getting enough gas it runs. I also replaced the O2 sensor, which didn't help it. So I was wondering if it was either the fuel pump, fuel filter, or maybe the cat is just plugged up? Also about the same time it happened, my speedometer cable snapped. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

 

Hey man, I hear the TPS (throttle position sensor) is kinda finicky on these things so why not find that, pull it off and try to clean it with some MAF cleaner. While you're at it, get some throttle body cleaner and clean that too.

 

Already firgured it out. The computer in the dash wasn't ground. So I shook the dash and it somehow regrounded it and thats when I figured it out. But I did try throttle body and carburator cleaner before finding it out.
