1994 Cutlass 6 cyl
My transmission has been sticking in overdrive and will not "down shift". When I come down out of overdrive and highway speeds, the transmission seems to stay in overdrive. 172K milage...No whines, surges, slips, grinds...just sticks in overdrive.
If I have to come to a stop (other cars, traffic light..etc) the transmission will stutter and stall the engine. When restarting the auto...in N...the engine starts nicely...but when I drop it into D...the engine will stall again. The only way to get the car moving from a traffic situation ?...I will rev the engine and slam the transmission to D...this will usually spin the tires and just enough to get the car moving along...of course it's out of overdrive now! If the transmission is stuck in overdrive and I stop the car (park it)...I will have to wait about 20 minutes of "cool down" time to have the transmission operate normally. It might be an ATF Fluid pressure issue rather than "cooling down" temp. issue. I have changed the AFT fluid and filter about 200 miles ago...but not much difference noticed so far. Anyone have similar issues or have suggestions to check for on the tranny? |
