'68 toronado 455 in '68 cutlass?
:cool:I'm going to be putting a '68 455 out of a toronado into a '68 cutlass and I wondering what problems I should expect. I really need to know what motor mount to use or if I can use the mounts from the 350 that was in it. And the cutlass had a/c so I'm wondering if the a/c components on the firewall are going to need to be removed to fit that 455 in the engine compartment. Thanks guys!

Shouldn't be any problems strait forward swap. You can use the 350 mounts. No problem with the a/c either. Good luck. I think the oil pan is bigger on the Toronado but, I don't think it will be a problem. Check out ClassicOldsmobile.com some guys over there have done the same swap. They would have better info.

dont use the 350 mounts with a 455
use the correct mount. |
455 olds motor mounts
Since the car is a 1968 cutlass and the motor is out of Front wheel drive toronado i don't know which motor mount to ask for. And also I keep in mind that there was no 455 avaiable in the 1968 cutlass just a 350 and a 400. I'm about to install the 455 in 6 days....what to do?

Get the engine side mounts for the 350 and roll with it. It will drop down ans sit in the car like it was meant to be there. I currently own a 1970 442 thased the 350 mounts with no issue. Not even when I installed the headers. The lower part of all "modern" Olds V8 engines have the exact same dimensions so motor mounts interchange so long as you get the engine side mounts for the engine that originally came in the car. Hell I had a 1980 Cutlass that came with a 260 that had 2 350s and a 455 all on the same frame pads and 260 engine mounts. That's 4 different engines on the same mounts. |
use the 350 mounts on 455?
Thanks for the help. So just use the same 350 mounts on the 455 and I 'll fine. Thanks again!

wow:( Like I said in my previous post the lower end of all modern olds V8s have the exact same dimensions. He doesn't need to go and try to find some frame mounts from a big block car where there is no good reason to. In 1973 Oldsmobile even stopped using different mounts between big blocks and small blocks. So yes you gave him bad info. |

For his application the 350 mounts ARE the correct mounts. There is no difference in strength between the two. This swap has been done this way by MANY people over MANY years.
