'68 toronado 455 starting problem
 

Well I finally have from time to tinker with m '68 cutlass. I just installed a edelbrock torker intake manifold but I can't get it to start again and I'm getting a lot of fuel saturation on top back of the Holly 600 cfm that I used before. I'm thing timing. Any ideas on getting it started.

Did you pull the distributor when you replaced the intake? Why are you using a Holley 600 on a 455 on top of a Torker intake? That's just a bit of a mismatch.

Well I know the 600 Holley isn't ideal but I got it for dirt cheap as well as the intake. But, as far as the pulling the distributor, I only pulled it up enough to clear the intake manifold install. It actually. It started for a bit but idled rough due to a loose carb nut that created a vaccine leak. I tightened the nut and now it won't start, and it back fired fuel out the Carb and I'm getting a lot of fuel saturation on the Carb near the rear. So I'm just fishing for ideas. I hear ya on the dirt cheap.

You can verify TDC on the dist by pulling the cap and putting the timing mark at 0°. If the rotor is pointing at #1 then you are good to go. You mat need to rotate the engine twice to confirm this. Remember that the rotor turns counter clockwise and advance the housing about ¼" or so and that should get you in the timing ballpark.

As far as the cab goes make sure the needle and seat are not clogged and that the float(s) are functioning properly.
