78 cutlass motor swap question

I am getting my grandmothers cutlass... I am thinking of putting a cadillac 500 in it, has anyone done it on here, or know someone who has... would do a 455, but I have the caddy motor, so savin money is key. any help or direction would help lots...thanks

I know it's been done, but I don't know what was involved. What I can tell you is you are going to have to do some wiring modifications to get it to work due to the location of the distributor. I don't know where the starter is either.

Personally I would sell the 500 and find a 455. It is such an easy swap from a 260....you have no idea.

it actually has a 305 curently... is there much involved in the swap to a 455?

Man you're just not having a good day are you. You'll need either 260 (78-81) or 307 (82-88) frame pads and use 260 mounts for the 78 and it will drop right in place.
It would also be beneficial to find a good wiring harness from a 78-80 (early 80) that came with the 260 (get it from the same car as the frame pads) as that will make wiring the car MUCH easier.
I was lucky with the 80 I had as it was an early production model (no computer) and came with a 260. I went to a 350 and then a 455 and back to a 350 all on the same mounts and exhaust (no money for duals at the time). It was all simple swaps.

No I am not, but at least i have no money invested yet, got the car for free.... and think I have found a whole car for 400... thanks so much for the help... this olds thing is all new for me..lol
