Changing a steering gear box..

I know this is going to sound like a stupid question but in all my years working on cars, suspension is my weakest link. But, with some help form SVNT442 (thanks for the info), I was able to find a power steering gearbox for my cutlass. Well, I'm going to get cracking on swapping out the manual one for the power steering one in the morning and I was just wondering if when removing the steering box if you have to lift the car or support the suspension at all or if the pitman arm links are under any kind of pressure? if not then I can just make sure the pitman arm is where the one that came off is pointing and swap it out. As always thanks for any help I can get...

I did mine with the car fully on the ground. I never even thought of lifting it. Just make sure you have some heat handy as the pitman arm may not want to cooperate. Get a puller and DON'T FORCE IT. You may have to work the puller back and forth and release the tension a few times. Hitting the pitman arm while under tension will help, but inevitably you may have to heat it to get it of. Just make sure to only heat the arm and not the shaft. You want the arm to expand to make it loose on the shaft so it will come free.

Also the torque on the nut is 155 ft lbs so be prepared for that one.
