Default Distributor Vacuum Control Switch - ‘72 350

The Distributor Vacuum Control Switch on my ‘72 Cutlass Convertible has been plugged off ever since I’ve owned the car. The car runs fine, no issues but I’m curious to know if the DVCS needs to be connected? What are the advantages/disadvantages? If it’s advantageous to connect it can someone provide a vacuum diagram or explanation of routing for the vacuum hoses. Attached is a picture for clarification, the red wire is power for the electric choke pull off. It’s a ‘72 Olds 350, engine is stock except for Edelbrock carb and Accel electronic ignition kit. Thank you for your advice. Roqetman.
