idle speed regulates itself?

hey
i adjusted the idle speed on my old scutlass 1981 yesterday. It ran great , but after som driving back and forth, the idle speed went down a notch making the engine hard to stay alive (dies out after some minutes...)
Is it something wrong with the idle speed **** on the carb ? Or is it the carb itself ?
