need some advice
i have a 1975 olds with a 455 and th400, my problem is i am having starter problems i keep breakin them. it seem to be getting hung up or stuck but not all the time. but when it do get stuck it will grind and kick back hard. and yes i have tried using shims and they are not working. some one said that my fly wheel may not be balanced write, would this be true???

I had a vehicle that was doing the same. Was told that the engine/flywheel stop at darn near close to the same place everytime the car is shut off. My flywheel had an area where the teeth on it were shot. This was likely because the person that had it before me OVER-shimmed the starter when replacing it. I would first try to determine if you have an area where the teeth on the flywheel are worn/chewed/gone.
