i have a delimma. there is a guy that want to trade a 72 cutlass for my 79 z28. I looked at his car and it is a 2 door post. i cant seem to find another picture of one anywhere. i dont know much at all about olds and since i havent been able to find another like it im skeptical if it is a real cutlass. Any help greatly appreciated.

From all the ones I have seen that is the first one I have seen with the posts. I would do some more research before you trade. I looked to see if they had replacment parts on year one and could find the posts.

I had a 70 post car. He's good to go.

no offense to svnt442 but i have not been able to locate even a picture of another cutlass with vent windows and a post. if anyone has any more info on this car i would be very greatful. The more i look at the pics the more it looks like its just a front and back window whicch ive seen those but the vent windows are throwing me for a loop. if you know where i can find other pics or talk to someone else who has one please let me know.

If you have any questions about the car let me know. I have a pretty good handle on these things. I have owned 3 70-72 Oldsmobile A-Bodies. A 1970 Cutlass S (post car), A 1970 442 that I still own and a 1972 Cutlass Supreme.
Here are some post car pics for you and a craigslist add for a 71. http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_...0001_large.jpg http://media.motortopia.com/files/49...LYE350_001.jpg http://static.desktopnexus.com/wallp...gthumbnail.jpg http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/cto/1469325829.html |
Did they make a 72 with vent windows? the reason i ask is i followed your reply and searched for 70 and 71 and i did find a couple. could this guy just not know what he has?
Why do they call it a post car? Not the typical post cars im used to. Is it hard to find parts? Should it have a column shifter or floor shifter? Buckets or bench? Console or open? I just want to make sure before i trade. My wife wants this car. Me, im a camaro person but im open to any of the older rods and if it makes her happy she will give me the money to spend on it. If you know what i mean. What are some things i need to look for and where should i look for them. Cowl tags, door stickers anything like that. If i was to get the vin # where could i look it up to find out more about the car. Thank you ahead of time for any replies. |
The cowl tag will be on top of the cowl on the drivers side under the hood. The VIN is located in the same spot as your camaro.
The cowl tag will give you the model year, body style, paint code, time built code, interior code and build plant. The VIN will break down as follows: Division: 3 (Oldsmobile) Series: D= F85 4 door sedan F= F85 2 door coupe G= Cutlass K= Vista Cruiser Body code: 36= 4 door station wagon 39= 4 door supreme 56= 4 door Vista Cruiser wagon 57= 2 door supreme 66= 4 door Vista Cruiser wagon 67= 2 door convertible 69= 4 door sedan 77= 2 door club sedan 87= 2 door coupe engine code: H= 350 2bbl V8 160 HP J= 350 2bbl V8 175 HP (dual exhaust) K= 350 4bbl V8 180 HP M= 350 4bbl V8 200 HP (dual exhaust) U= 455 4bbl V8 250 HP (dual exhaust) V= 455 4bbl V8 270 HP (dual exhuast) X= 455 4bbl V8 300 HP (W30) Model year: 2= 1972 Assembly Plant: G= Framingham, MA M= Lansing, MI R= Arlington, TX Z= Fremont, CA Sequence number: Production sequence starting at 100001 (all plants) I'm guessing your VIN will read something like 3G77K2M1xxxxx |
Thank you for taking the time to answer. i am going to look at it on thursday 12/2/09. Will post what i find out about the car.
Thank you Todd |
