Hey all i am new to this here forum and i was just looking for a bit of help with my 1980 cutlass cupreme 5.0L 305. My rear main seal is totally gone and i was wondering what kind of work i was looking at to replace it before i go tearing it apart in my driveway. I have talked to a couple of different guys who have givin me some totally different answers. Mostly i am looking for the easiest way to get at the seal. Thanks for any help you can give.

 

if your not looking to take the motor out, then the easiest but really a difficult way is to take the oil pan off, take the oil pump off followed by the rear main bolts and take the retainer off. If the seal is completely gone then just put the new one in.
