Ok heres my problem my car wont start. here is what i have done so far Bought new battery ( had to old one wouldnt hold charge) checked starter it is good changed ignition switch it is good also checked fuses they all are good also . when i go to start the car it sometimes will turn over once and thats it no more, also now when i go to hook up the battery it sparks like there is a short but no fuses are popping . fuel pump works cause i can here it and smell the gas once the carb floods . so thats my situation im a pretty mechanically inclined guy but this has just stumped me any help would be greatly appreciated oh yea it is an 84 olds cutlass supreme 231c.i. v6 it is a buick engine thanks people

What do you mean the battery sparks when you hook it up. When you first touch the negative cable to the terminal there should be a spark (assuming you have the positive hooked up already). But after it's on it should stop. So do you mean that or do you mean just sparks flying all over the whole time the wire and terminal are together.

And it should be a VERY small spark!


How did you check the starter?


Get the battery checked under a load. I've had bad cells straight outa the box.
