Carburetor

We have a 1956 Olds Super 88. We just had the carb rebuilt. When we put it back on the car the carb has a leak. It is leaking gas from the fuel intake on the carb. When we took the fuel line off and the fitting attaching the line to the carb we saw that the threads in the carb are stripped. Now what can we do? We have been told there is a product that will seal the fitting to the carb but we are unsure what to use. Any suggestions out there?

Who stripped the inlet, you or the rebuilder? If the rebuilder, go back and have him make it right.

Am not aware of, nor do I know that I would trust any sealant to hold up. Gas leaking on a hot engine is not a good situation.

Doubt you will get a lot of help here, due to the level of msg traffic. You might go over to the Classic Oldsmobile website for help with this problem. A lot of knowledgeable fold there. It may necessitate a new carb body or air horn?

That inlet is removable and can be replaced with a new one. I just had my Carb on my 55 Super 88 rebuilt by Don Monroe in Washington State, He replaced the one on my carb because of the same problem as your having. You can remove that part and take it to a local speed shop and see if they have replacements as well.
