Removing Canvas Mock Top
 

I was recently gifted my grandma's 1998 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight (with 33,000 miles). I love it, but it has a pretty horrible canvas mock convertible top. I could live with it if it wasn't completely unstitched, mildewed, and peeling off around the rear window. I would love to remove it to reveal a paintable surface underneath. I am an artist and I am interested in either doing a creative paint job to give it some character and mask some of the chipping and etched paint. I'm also considering having my friend who owns a sign company wrap the car with vinyl (similar to what they use to wrap buses, only it would feature my own design).

I'm open to suggestions.
