I have a 455 engine from a 1976 Olds 98 which I'm using in a Special. The enginehasn't run for over 10 years but I rebuilt it 4 years ago and am nowready to fire it up. However, when cranking itthere's no oil pressure. There's no oilreaching the rockers and nothing showing on the pressure guage (and ifI disconnect the gauge there's nothing exiting the hole where it connects to the engine)I've also tried spinning the pump with an electric drill. This spins it very fast but still doesn't give any pressure. The Chilton manual said to pack the pump with petroleum jelly so that's what I did when I rebuilt the engine. Was that correct? If so, will 4-year-old petroleum jelly still work?If not, should I prime the pump some other way or not bother? Anyway, what happens to all the petroleum jelly when it leaves the pump?
