<DIV>hi everyone I just bought an 86 442 a few weeks ago. it has a rocket 350 from a 74 hurst/olds in it. the engine was not fully rebuilt to stock but has a basically a bunch of new parts on it. the engine starts right up and runs perfect and i use it as an everyday driver.

i believe the 2004r tranny is in the car. my dad's friend (who's my mechanic) said that the 7004r tranny is better for that engine but anyways im looking to do some work in the near future on the engine. i also have headers and true duel exhaust on it. it has some small mufflers which im going to replace with flowmasters soon.

now i want to give it a decent boost in horse power. i dont want it to be a 11 second car, i just wanna get maybe around 300 horse out of it. i get about 15 mpg and i would like to keep it around that if possible, as long as i get over 10 ill be happy. now im not a mechanic myself. i know a little bit but my uncle is one and will help me out with whatever project i have. i just not really sure what i can do to push some more horse out of the car. im not exactly sure how much its pushin now but im guessing that 74 350 gives around 200 maybe 220?

so what can i do to this engine to give me some more power? and remember right now its stock. oh and i dont have THAT much $ to spend, maybe a grand, maybe a little more. thanks</DIV>

Stick with the 200 4r. They can be built to handle whatever you are gonna throw at it with that 350. The 700R4 would require and adapter plate to make it work as well as a different driveshaft.

With all the mony you'd spend on converting over you could build a killer 200 4R.

As far as the engine goes there is no real way to tell what has already been done to it with tearing it dwon and checking parts. The best way for you to get more out of it is with a good combo of cam, intake, carb, headers and exhaust. You NEED to know what pistons are in it first so you can figure out what compression ratio the engine has before you select a cam. If you go too big with a low compression, you're just gonna kill perfomance.
