I need help figuring out what engine is in my car, I assumed it was a 350, but noticed it had a factory aluminum intake, and tube manifolds, pretty much headers, so it appears to be some kind of high output motor, somebody told me it could be a 403, anybody know how to ID it, or where I can get a list of #'s so I can break the # on the motordown to find out what it is,the engine and auto tranny, possibly the 442 shifter, will also be for sale, Idon't want leavethem in my old Nova.

Let's start with the numbers on the front/top of the motor, next to the oil fill tube. Also, the letter or number on the left front and right rear heads. C.J. |
well I have the #'s off of the top, and left head, couldn't get to the one on the right head without taking the car apart, I'll have to get it when i pull the motor, # on top is 4790 GM50L, left head # is 5844

Hate to break it to you, but that block isa 307 (VIN Y) from an 85-89 Olds. The heads are matching 6A (67cc) heads. Totally plain-Jane. Definately not high performance. Try to find a 350 or (better yet) 455 to drop in. Until then, you have a dog. Sorry. C.J. |
thanks for the reply, I was kinda thinking along the same lines when I saw 50L in the first #, 5.0 liter, thanks
