02 Intrigue whiney pump after car starts

Hello All,
I have an 02 Intrigue with 85,000 miles - great car! Recently, I have noticed when the car starts, there is whiney sound for about 30 seconds. It sounds like a pump/motor or a belt. Then the device turns off and the noise goes away, and everything is/seems fine. I'd like to get this fixed, but I would also like to know what it is before I get to the dealer/service station. Any ideas?
Thanks for any input,
Mike

Check the serpentine belt for wear and proper tension. Check for fluids dripping on the belt causing it to slip. Use a mechanics stethoscope or a long metal bar to help pinpoint the source of the noise. Check power steering fluid level, those pumps will squeal if low on fluid.

Thanks for the input, but I don't think it's the serpentine belt. As I understand, that runs all the time. This only happens when the car starts for the first time, and only lasts for 30s to 1 minute. If the car has run for a while and I shut the car off and restart it, the noise does not happen. A friend of mine has an 03 Caddy with 90k miles and has noticed the same issue. He thinks it could be an emmisions thing. I also replaced the power steering fluid, this did not have an effect. Any more ideas? Thanks,
Mike
