Hi all.

Trying to help a friend decipher if an Engine for sale is indeed a 1968 455.

The seller says it was pulled from a 68 Delmont.

We have a photo of the head stamp, "E"

Th engine appears to be original and complete, with 2bbl and Gold paint. My buddy thinks all Olds 455's in 68 should be Red or Blue?

I'm a Mopar guy, but for the life of me, I can't find that much info on these Olds Engines!

The seller claims that he can't find any block castings or stmapings that could tell us more. I understand that in 68, Olds starting stamping partial VINS on the block, with the first Number being the Year....

Any help or thoughts apperciated.

The engine is out of the car...but about 1200 miles away!

It looks very clean and may have been repainted the gold/bronze color it is now....

Everything I can dig up on Delmonts and Delta 88's with these 455-2V engines indicates that the engine was RED from the factory....

He's worried that the color could be an indication that it's a 400.

LOL...yeah, with a Mopar, a blind man could tell you the year, engine size, plant, and shift! And here I am trying to use PAINT color to help verify the origin of this thing.

But since that time, we have been able to coax a few stamping numbers/Letters out of him, and are pretty much convinced it's a 68 455 mill.

Thanks

<DIV>Take a look atwww.ucalgary.ca/~csimpson/TheOldsZone.html

Under TECH, you'll find "Oldsmobile block code location" and "The block VIN derivative code location".
</DIV>
<DIV>It is WAY easy t see the engine number. It's on the flat pad just between the water pump and intake, next to the oil filler tube! I think he's trying to hose ya.</DIV>
