I have a 1984 Olds Cutlass Cierra 4 cyl with 140K. The car runsamazingly wellexcept when it has been driven and it is hot and sunny outside. If the car sits for 40 minutes or so and you restart it, it will start initially, and then die. Sometimes it will run until you pull it in gear and then die. It will not start for about an 30 minutes to an hour, then it will start and chatter for a bit and then run smoothly. I was able to get it started faster by shooting fuel injector cleaner in the inj. body. The car still died on this once and so I shot more inside. It ran rough for a bit and then by reving the engine higher it began to run smoothly.Often if the problem is occuring the engine will hesitate until you get it moving on the highway or you put it in neutral and rev it.

I have replaced all heat sensors and the radiator fan cools as it should. I have replaced the gas cap, fuel filter, O2 sensor, egr valve, air idle control screw, andcleaned the injector/throttle body. I have also replaced the spark plugs, wires, distributer cap, rotor, and ignition module. I even replaced the transmission locker switch. None of these things have helped.

I have not replaced the coil or the fuel pump. The car starts fine when it is cold outside or if the car has not been driven. I have not replaced the computer.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

YOU NEED TO STOP THROWING PARTS AT YOUR CAR AND FIND A MECHANIC.

Agreed. Don't throw any more parts at the car until you know what the problem is. My guess would be a weak fuel pump. To me, this sounds like a case of vapor lock, and the fuel pump isn't strong enough to pressurize the fuel enough to make it liquid again.

You need to measure the fuel pressure just before the injectors when this problem occurs.

When you do get it fixed, you've already replaced most of the other stuff that usually fails, so the car should be good to go for another 100K

< src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" =text/>most likely sounds like a fuel delivery problem,</>check fuel pressure, sound like pump or check ball faulty in pump unit, if it starts and dies after a hot soak..don't replace any more parts until the correct diagnostics is performed!
