The 403 - ??
#1
I''ve admired Oldsmobiles from a distance - Grew up in Lansing MI as a matter of fact - But never owned an Olds til now.
Actually all I''ve got is a couple engines, a 455 and a 403.
I''ve been doing some reading up and there are things Iprefer about Olds engines, compared to Chevys that I''m used to. So I''m considering rebuilding the 403 for use in an International pickup restoration.
I''m curious what the general opinion of the 403 is, for use in a truck that''s driven frequently, but not drivenhard.
Also - It''s my understanding that the 455 heads will swap onto the 403 if I enlarge the bolt holes. Are the intake ports the same dimensions for the BB heads as the SB heads?
I don''t have the casting# with me at the moment or I''d post them, but the 455 heads are from a 70 Delta 88 and the 403 is from a 78 Toronado.
Thanks for helping out - Looking forward to becoming more familiar with the Olds product

Having had both 403 and 455 in the same car I would go with the 455 it has more torquealso has a more durable block from strength standpoint no windows. Cubes are good for torque as is long stroke which the 455 has. The 403 were very good motors as I have had two in three different Olds and have another to install in my presentOlds 98to replace a 307.

Thanks for the reply
How about the head interchangability
Intake port dimensions in particular - Anyone?
The 455 is torn down, and needs a rebuild, so I''m pretty sure I''ll stick with the 403- And the 403 is running right nowso I''d rather not tear it down just tomeasure the port size.
The 455 heads are K heads - The 403 heads are 4A headsEdited by: beekay
